Program Description

Flight 40:31 is available to male and female, under-priveleged high school students.  Ideally, students will begin involvement at the end of their sophomore year and will have already earned their driver’s license.  There is a formal application process for admission (a link on this site explains that process).

Assuming all program requirements are met and maintained, the participants will remain a part of the program until high school graduation.  Flight 40:31 will assist high school counselors (as needed) transition the participants into college (particularly those students who wish to pursue aviation as a course of study).

While enrolled in the 40:31 program, the individual will be exposed to the world of aviation.  He/she will complete ground school as well as in-flight instruction culminating in the award of a pilot’s license.

Participants will be required to meet requirements pertaining to community service time and physical exercise in addition to maintaining at least a “C” average in all school work. Bi-monthly meetings will also be mandatory. THAT is also when most of the ministry will happen.

Training will be provided at no monetary charge to the individual.  To put the flight training investment specifically in context, the average cost to complete pilot training is approximately $6,000.  Additionally, there are other program components that are  costly.  Training and operational expenses will be provided by Flight 40:31 via donated monies.

Initially, Flight 40:31 will not have employees, own aircraft or have certified flight instructors (CFI’s) on staff. Instead, 40:31 will pay Allmond Aviation, LLC (Mt. Hawley Airport) for all flight instruction, aircraft rental and other services.  It will be the intention of Flight 40:31 however, to someday own aircraft to more economically fulfill its mission.

Participants will be challenged to change their lives and better themselves on several levels: intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically.  It is the goal of 40:31 to encourage individuals and help them succeed.  If an individual fails to maintain the program requirements however, they may be required to end their involvement.  The decision to terminate any participant’s involvement will be made by the board of directors after a probationary period and case review.

The current and future success of this program will depend upon the support (financial & otherwise) it receives from churches, corporate/foundation sponsors and individuals.  Flight 40:31 will always strive to be a good steward of what is provided, never forgetting the primary reason for its existence:  to introduce kids to the saving grace of Jesus Christ via aviation.
